Isolated Thunderstorm
Shallow-Tornadic Supercell?

South of Burford, Oxfordshire
March 21st 2004

The following report has been produced following the encounter of Brendan Jones and Laura Gilchrist with a violent thunderstorm in Oxfordshire. The report aims to explore the background meteorology and analyse the potential supercell characteristics of this thunderstorm. This report includes a detailed account of the storm chase and its results from Laura and Brendan. Together with Paul Knightley, this report also includes a comprehensive damage survey in the villages of Filkins and Broadwell where a tornado, associated with the same cell, touched down.

Please note that this report is not a complete scientific analysis of supercells and the mechanics behind them; it is intended to introduce a broad outline of our theories, together with a photographic log of the entire event.

Be warned that due to the nature of this report some pages are graphically intensive, and may require a few moments to load on slower internet connections.
