30/05 Day
14 No storms were expected within reasonable driving distance again today, so we were going to use it as another travel day. We left our hotel in Valentine, northern Nebraska, and made the journey southwards into southwestern Kansas. Specifically, we were staying in a hotel in Garden City. After the 7hr journey, we finished up in Applebee's again before turning in for the night. Storms are expected in the area tomorrow so we should be well placed if they break out. Total mileage: 368 miles |

This shows where last
night's lightning strike touched down. Our hotel is on the right,
and the lightning strike hit near the petrol station in the distance,
at the end of the street, about 400 metres away. |

There
were areas of high cloud around and, for over an hour, a perfect halo

Americans don't do anything by half, and this rather excessive flag at
a tiny, remote truck stop is evidence enough! . . |

| Temperatures
were pegged in the low 20s Celsius but the roads were still soaringly
hot under the sunny skies. Mirages and heat haze were therefore aplenty. |
