The Dee Bore - March 2006

The following set of images show the Dee Bore passing the Saltney footbridge, at approximately midday.

The bore about half a mile downstream. The large while pillar of the Flintshire Bridge can be seen through the haze, and in front of that, the blue Connah's Quay Bridge.

A nice breaking wave of around 3ft, as the bore moves further upstream. Note people for scale on the bank.

These chaps had a much better view of the bore ;-)

Approaching the Saltney Footbridge.

Once under the bridge, the bore races upstream towards the end of the man-made channel, where the Dee returns to it's natural course. Once again, spot the man on the right-hand bank for scale.

Chester-bound!

A video is available, showing some footage of the bore in these two viewing locations. Please choose your video quality, depending on your internet connection speed.

I highly recommend viewing the Dee Bore. It will always be more spectacular in person, and unlike the Severn Bore, you don't have to fight for position on the bank to view the wave race past!
