Sunsets & Sunrises in 2003
On
6th May 2003, at the crack of dawn, the sky took on a superb spectrum of colour,
from dark blue to brilliant red, as the sunrise commenced over Portsmouth.
As
the light levels increased, thin bands of altocumulus began to appear. Whilst
the sky grew increasingly bright, the city remained dark.
Continuing
the 6th May sunrise, the sun's disc makes its first appearance, rising to
the east of Portsmouth. In the foreground are the hills of the South Downs,
and the waters of Langstone Harbour.
The
last image in this series, and the rising sun lights up the underbelly of
increasingly large banks of altocumulus, whilst also providing amazing reflections
in the waters of Langstone Harbour.
Another sunrise, but this time on the 28th June, 2003. A very different sky
this time, filled with everything from high layers of cirrus, to small clumps
of cumulus.
A
zoomed-out version of the previous images, as the sky is set on fire over
Portsmouth by the rising sun.
On
the 10th September 2003, this sunset marked the very last time I'd see the
setting sun from my university halls of residence in Portsmouth. A glorious
end to a stunning window on the weather, high above the south coast.
